That’s why James opened Bernicky Law Firm in Naperville, Ill.
In addition to running the firm with the greatest legal team assembled in Illinois, James focuses on the practice areas of residential and commercial real estate, bankruptcies, business law and contracts, entertainment law, wills and trusts, and intellectual property including copyrights and trademarks.
James is admitted to practice law in the state of Illinois and the Northern District of Illinois and is a proud member of the DuPage County Bar Association, the Illinois Bar Association, the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Naperville Chamber Young Professional’s Network. He earned his Juris Doctorate at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago with a certificate in Intellectual Property. James earned bachelor degrees in Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Political Science from Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.
James has served as Chair of the Naperville Housing Commission and as a board member on the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors Attorney Broker Committee.
In his free time, James enjoys playing music, sports, racing remote controlled cars, volunteering with the Naperville Jaycees, and spending time with his lovely wife and two children.

Veronica Silva

Veronica practices in the areas of real estate, bankruptcy, business, and estate planning. Veronica brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the firm, coupled with a friendly and approachable demeanor that makes her a perfect fit at Bernicky Law Firm.
Veronica’s impressive career began after she earned her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. With a strong foundation in law, she quickly made a name for herself in various prestigious law firms. At Latham & Watkins LLP, Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP, and Franczek Radelet, P.C., Veronica honed her skills in employee benefits and executive compensation, advising both private and state employers on complex legal matters.
In 2014, Veronica founded the QDRO Law Center, P.C. in Skokie, Illinois. As the managing partner, she expertly drafted and negotiated retirement division orders, developed a thriving business through strategic networking, and represented her company at media interviews and conferences. Her leadership and innovative approach significantly reduced operational redundancies and streamlined processes.
Transitioning to real estate, Veronica joined Coldwell Banker Realty and Keller Williams Realty in 2019 as a Residential Real Estate Broker. Her ability to oversee multifaceted real estate transactions, maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, and creatively troubleshoot problems has consistently led to successful outcomes and exceptional customer satisfaction.
Veronica’s extensive experience in real estate, makes her a valuable asset to our firm. She is known for her meticulous attention to detail, strategic thinking, and ability to simplify complex legal concepts for her clients. Veronica’s approachable nature ensures that clients feel comfortable and confident in their legal journey, knowing they have a dedicated advocate by their side.

Michelle Powers
Legal AssistantMichelle assists clients and supports attorneys in Bankruptcy, Litigation, and Estate Planning.
Michelle’s passion for the law is in her genes — she started working for her dad, who was an attorney in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, when she was in high school and continued through college. After graduating with a B.A. in Public Relations with a Broadcasting minor from Northern Michigan University, this “Yooper” moved to Chicago and worked for a small law firm in the city. Michelle joined Bernicky Law Firm in 2016.
Michelle enjoys spending time with her husband Drew, two kids, and Lily the dog. She loves to travel to see mountains and explore fun theme parks and attractions – her favorite destination is Europe. One of her biggest passions is the Michigan Wolverines – she’s always cheering on the basketball and football teams. Go BLUE!
Beth DeGeeter
Legal AssistantBeth works with the team to provide support to the attorneys and their clients. Her varied work experience brings extensive office and account management skills to the group. Beth is a graduate from Southeast Missouri State University where she received a BS in Microbiology as well as a minor in Aerospace Studies.
As Naperville Natives and legacy volunteers, Beth and her family have dedicated more than 100 years of service towards various civic organizations. She has held numerous leadership roles with the Naperville Jaycees including President, Co-Chair of the 2021 and 2022 Last Fling, and Philanthropy.
In her free time, Beth enjoys curling at the Windy City Curling Club, which takes her to competitions across the US and internationally. She loves kayaking, camping, and spending time outdoors with friends. Beth is also a proud Aunt to both children and puppies.
